In May of 2007 I got, technically my 3rd DUI in Maine. However Maine only saw one previous DUI from 2001 because it occurred in Maine. I later got my 2nd in Massachusetts in 2003. So last May, I was charged with my 2nd offense and lost my license for 18 months.
My question is I am now living in Florida. When the 18 months is up do I have to go back to Maine to reinstate my license, or try to get a license in Florida? And if I do try in FLorida will they see that I have 3 DUI's and was only charged with two? I appreciate anyone's advice.
Also will I have to get the Interlock device and if so how long? And does your license suspension start the date you get pulled over or after your court date? THANK U
I am on a listserve of DWI lawyers from around the country that often discuss these types of issues. I know little about Maine (other than I know an excellent DWI lawyer there, Wayne Foote), but I can tell you you need to reinstate or do whatever you can to get a license back in a state other than Florida. It is the strictest state in the country on these issues. They have a lifetime driver's license suspension if you reach a certain point. You will have to consult a lawyer in Florida where you live for more information, but I would definitely avoid EVER applying for a Florida license with three priors. I would recommend contacting Mike Kessler in Fort Pierce or Hoot Crawford in Panama City for more advice. Good luck. Matt Guilfoil
